Today, I finally passed the R&S v4 exam in San Jose. I'd like to thank the instructors at Internetwork Expert for their excellent workbooks and classes. I'd also like to thank all of the other candidates for posting their encouraging stories and technical advice. I couldn't have done it without you folks. I'd also like to thank my family, coworkers, and friends for putting up with me while I pursued this. This was my fourth attempt and my third version 4 attempt.
Here is a brief synopsis of my experience and strategy.
For my preparation, I spent a year and half working on the CCIE InternetworkExpert Self Paced packaged. In the beginning I used dynamips and rack rentals, but I eventually built a lab with a coworker using 1841 routers and 3750 switches. I would plug away working on the lab exercises in my spare time. I'd put in 15-20 hours a week in my lab. I worked through the volume 1 and 2 labs several times. I also enjoyed all of the audio and video products. The core knowledge simulation was great too. CiscoPress books, the DOC Website, and the RFCs all were useful. Also, don't forget to check your libraries. Most of the CiscoPress books I read, I found at my library. Save some of your cash and visit your library. Finally, don't give up. We all know it sucks to fail, but I swear if you keep at it and don't give up you will pass.
Good luck to you guys!

I have an amazing family and awesome friends, all who supported me as I went through this process. My wife and kids especially felt the pain. As I spent my 20+ hours a week in my office on top of my normal work schedule I missed a lot of nights and weekends with them, all worth it, but without their support there is no way I could have done this. I look forward to being a full-time Dad and Husband again!
I will definitely be coming back to INE when I am ready to start preparation for R/S, and eventually CCDE (years off). The INE material is by far the best and I look forward to learning more! Special thanks to Keith Barker who has been my instructor and mentor throughout this journey. You are the best Keith!
Thanks!

My studies were made up of Reading the SRND section by section and understanding the technology as well as going through Vol 1 workbook and understanding the questions and the task.
Once I was able to do the task and meet the requirements I then moved onto full labs and trying to put it all together.
The week before my lab I completed my last and final full mock lab that Sat. After that no more labbing, I felt I could do the lab so the rest of the week I would do specific topics just to stay sharp but not any full labs. Going back to my sport days you practice, practice, practice then rest before you match, game or event. I did the same with the lab and I feel that paid off pretty good.
I was worried about the OEQ, but like everyone has stated. If you really prepare for the exam the OEQ are easy. I would like to thank Josh Finke, and Mark Snow, for all the study material and advice as well as my study partner "Twann Atkins". So be on the lookout for their success stories coming soon.

So to give you a little background on myself. My name is Hadi Esper, I am Lebanese, and 23 years old. I have been studying for my CCIE ever since I touched my first CCNA book (2.5 years ago). I guess my journey is somehow accelerated, you’ll learn why in a few minutes.
I must start with one thing first. I have taken the time to write this post mostly because I feel like I owe it to the INE team and all other members of the INE forums, without your support, I could have never reached where I did. I must also confess, over the whole preparation period, I have been a “taker” and not a “giver”. I would say I was a taker from the forums because I never had time to log on and answer any else’s questions, I only logged on when I had trouble and needed help. So from now on, I promise to make my contribution to the forums as a thank you to everyone who helped me even when I was difficult or in-experienced sometimes. I have also been a huge “taker” from the sales team, whom I always asked for discounts and discounts.. well mostly because preparation was a little difficult for me financially. So you ask how I am going to give back? Hehehe.. well.. I still have 516 tokens in my account, and if the INE team is okay with it, I would be happy to donate them to someone who is currently preparing for the lab and is basically in my shoes (the past me). To be honest, I don’t know who or how to choose.. I was thinking of making some kind of competition, but I don’t want to make it difficult for anyone.. I just want to make someones life just a tiny bit easier.. so experts.. feel free to suggest a decision criteria ..
Alright, so now is the part where I explain how I prepared for my CCIE.. I started my preparation back when I was in university. I am a graduate of the electrical and computer engineering school (July 2008). I started my preparation around January 2008, that’s when I bought a very comprehensive book “CCNA study Guide” by todd lammle. Now one thing I want to stress to any candidate.. when you are preparing for the CCNA, your goal should not be to pass the CCNA exam.. your goal should be to gain CCIE level knowledge part of which happens to be CCNA, CCNP or whatever.. so what I am saying is, even if your studying a CCNA book, do it like your studying for the CCIE. I remember buying some useless router emulator for 150$ .. ow man do I regret that.. just get GNS3.. and start practicing everything you learn in your CCNA and CCNP books. When I took my CCNA exam .. which had some simulation questions, I was at a CCNP level in configuring routing protocols and therefore the CCNA exam simulations were a piece of cake.. and similarly with the CCNP, I had practiced routing switching, qos .. etc.. so much.. that I felt I was above the CCNP level before even taking the tests… why ? because you should be studying to get the CCIE not to pass a CCNA/CCNP test…
Alright so back to my timeline.. I prepared for my CCNA while I was still in university.. it was also a cool experience because I took a graduate level lab at that time where we would spend about 6 hours a week configuring cisco routers and a couple of linux servers.. after I graduated college in 20 days, I was recruited by Cisco as part of a graduate training program where I sat for official certified training (not INE at that time… but INe is the best.. more later..hehehe).. I took ICND-1 and 2.. I passed my CCNA exam.. I took BCMSN,BSCI,ONT,ISCW.. I passed all those tests as well… I passed the CCNA from the first try .. mostly because I was so well prepared since I read the todd lammle book page for page.. CCNP was a struggle .. especially that the courses were so crammed.. each certification was a 9 hour a day for 5 days course.. but during that whole CCNA/CCNP phase.. my life was all study.. I woke up at 8 everyday .. took my class from 9-5.. then stayed at the offices to study from 5pm to 11 or 12pm.. I did that for about 4 months straight.. and that’s how I got to be a CCNP by November 2008.

I put much of my success down to the solid technical grounding that your R&S Volume 1 workbook and Advanced Technology Class VoD gave me. They are truly excellent products. I also used your Volume 4 Troubleshooting Workbook without which I am sure I would have failed that portion of the lab.

I started in early 2007 with the INE workbooks, complete set. At that time, it was still version 4.0. In the meantime version 5 came out. I also used a lot of rack time from INE in 12 hours sessions that started at 6:00AM until 17:30 local time due to the time zone difference. Then we moved to our own rack in the company premises and allowed me to work on it anytime and from anywhere, whenever I had time for this. I stopped counting how many weekends, vacation days I spent on this rack using the INE workbooks.
The last 6 weeks for me were doing the INE R&S WB Volume1 version 5. This is a great source of information, very well written, with lots of details. I cannot recommend it strongly enough! Peter's 400 pages CoS section (but not only) is simply amazing.
I must say that all INE materials that I worked with is simply awesome!!!
I would like to thank INE for their products and great instructors. And I am glad to see that the team is growing with new expert names.
Brians were great to listen on the CoD. I had to listen CoD 3 times in order to get ALL the details they talk about.
Especially Scott, you were simply great during the boot camp last November in Reno!! Anthony was also special !!
All this helped me during my preparation.
Thank you again and all the best for you guys !

My advice to anyone preparing for the R&S exam is don't give up if you fail once or even twice, keep working at it and practice, practice, practice until most configurations become second nature.
That way you'll have plenty of time in the exam to think about anything non-standard and then be able to verify everything you've done.

Passed my CCIE R&S lab exam, first attempt on 19-Aug-2009 in Dubai. I would like to thank INE team for their guidance throughout the stressful journey.
The forums and discussions were excellent guide and these are for free and that's INE means they don't just sell their materials only but give candidates the extra info that they need to know for the lab exam. I used INE dynamips edition ver 4.0 and these workbooks gave me all the knowledge I needed to know for the lab exam. I would highly recommend these products for anyone taking the lab exam. I was preparing for the exam for almost a year. One thing for sure these INE lab workbooks are though but that's what made the real lab for me look so simple and straight forward.
Once again thank you INE. Thank you Brian, Brian McGahan, Petr and Scott.

Labs I took made a real difference. The most important thing about
them is that you get a lot of feedback from the graders, and you
actually get to feel the areas you need to improve further. Some of
them are more challenging than the actual lab, and - although some
may argue - better designed and written than the actual lab. :)
The guys at IE really know the technologies and their subtleties and
do a wonderful job of putting their knowledge into high-quality
training material. The free resources on the IE website and the IE
blog are simply superb. The documents about Catalyst QoS... a
lifesaver.
Thank you guys. I'll be back for SP. :)

report that I now own number 25025. The Internetwork Expert
workbooks, videos, and mock labs played a huge part in getting me
here. I watched all of the Advanced Technology videos, worked

I almost passed the first time in June, but Cisco decided to give me
a second challenge. So I went back to Brussels yesterday ... and
passed my CCIE RS #25004
For the preparation, I've read :
- Cisco CCIE Certification Guide
- Routing TCP/IP Vol I,II
- Cisco QoS Exam Certification Guides
- and Cisco Doc CD for everything
I practiced 7 IE MockLab the last 3 months and also used Core
Knowledge Simulation.
I must say that IE products really help me to point out what I have
to read and pratice deeply.
Thanks guys for all your great job. I will definitely go with IE for

I have returned from Brussels yesterday and today got my score - PASS
at first attempt on Jul 27, 2009!
During the preparations I have used IEWB Volume I and II version 4.1
and 5.0 - they are excellent and in-depth written.
I find your Audio Book a very valuable resource - great to listen
during mythic spare time and while driving :-)
The Core Knowledge Questions are good as well.
So, I have leveraged almost everything, even the Polymorphic labs. It
was a great half-a-year marathon.
Last but not least - I have spent numerous evenings with Advanced
Technologies CoD - a very good material to structuralize the theory
and start the CCIE preparations with.
Did I forget something? :-)
Special kudos to Petr - his blog entries are enlightening. Keep up
the good job!
Keep it going, Gentlemen.

CCIE RS 24917 after my first attempt!
Without question, my success is greatly due to the materials
available from Internetwork Expert. I went through all of the Class
on Demands, Workbooks 1, 2, and 3, and the Core knowledge simulator.
My schedule was short and aggressive, exactly 4 months from start
till my lab date on July 20, 2009. On average, I studied 3 hours a
night during the work week, and 6 - 8 hours on the weekends. Due to
the time committed, and the high quality of the Internetwork Expert
materials, I didn't find the lab as technically challenging as I
expected. The study materials put me at a technical level that was
above and beyond what I encountered in the lab, and it became more an
issue of time management and lab strategy.
My thanks again to the Internetwork Expert team. Over the past
four months, I bounced between praising and cursing the Internetwork
Expert name. The end result is that thestudy materials pushed me to
reach a level of technical proficiency that has made me realize this:
I was a CCIE before I walked into the lab- the lab was more a
necessary formality.

lab.

Just want to tell you that 24888 has been claimed as of July 16, 2009 (RTP). No no...she is mine :)
Great thanks goes to team INE: Anthony S., Brian M and Brian D., Scott M, Peter L., Mike B., River H. You guys have built a very solid organization (from Sales to support to technical material).
This journey has been a long one for me. ON/OFF and some brute force approach initially. Then I changed approach and and was determined to go from bottom up. Passing was no more the only requirement. Emphasis on understanding "all" the technology behind issues. Can I solve it with other methods kind of asking....Also, my latest job role demanded the expertise (it is tech support if you are curious)
OEQ: Do not underestimate them!!! Like Anthony said, take sweet time, back-n-forth, upside-down...etc with them. You have no chance to ask for clarification. Proctor Howard is awesome. A very polite profession person. He tries to ease up your tension (specially during lunch ) with funnies...etc.
Now I have to erase some voices from my brain (Scott's "it depends", Brian M "good morning every one" ). Peter L, you are one genius I (hope to get a copy of your future book). Anthony, your advise has been very inspirational and kept me going when I am tired and weak.
Took the exam one day before my first child and son B-Day on Friday July 17. Took his picture to lab (showed it to Proctor who told me show him both sides when done). Looked at the pic during the long eight hours.
One more thing: read the whole thing cover-to-cover before you start. It was nerve racking, as the clock ticks w/out you clicking on the key board. But per Anthony's advice, if it helps you un-stress, answer one or two "low hugging fruits" as Brian M calls'em.
Go luck to all. Heading for SP. Hope my friends at INE will hook me up with a deal :)
Best Regards,
Tad Feleke

5th. So thanks to INE and the online community for the help and
material. I started my Lab studies this year at the beginning of Feb
2009 (after passing the written in December) and took 5 weeks leave
from work just before the lab (was only doing 15 hours per week
before this).
With regards to the Lab I pretty much followed the Blueprint and then
used workbook 2 V4 the dynamips version and workbook 3 with the rack
rentals. Also a few mock exams one of which I did well on, the other
2 I tanked (although the rack session did die for 2 hours on one).
I have pretty much been doing labs on weekends and then doing more
technology focussed study on evenings since then.
In the last 5 weeks I did 3 mock exams and maybe 6 or 7 workbook labs
and the last 2 weeks I was mostly reading. I read Doyle RS vol 1 and 2
the cert guide and various missing pieces from the online docs. I
can honestly say for me most of the open ended questions were very
straighforward if you know your stuff, really for me the reading
didn't really add to the OEQ's (but please read), it did however add
to my confidence and strengthen my configuration skills and speed.
Ps... I also did the cisco ccie assessor labs 2 (these are worthwile
as they do give you a good insight into what you are trying to achieve
and the cisco wording).
I have read allot of blogs about doing multiple workbooks and labs
however I would say you need a well balanced approach based around
theory and labbing. I did not hammer the labs at all and I would say
the last 2 weeks I have probably done less than 20 hours of labbing
and spent the rest of the time reading.
With regards to the Lab I must have slept about 3 hours before and I
really struggled when I got in. The battle is more against yourself
rather than the lab itself.
One thing I don't want to miss is context, i have had about 12 years
experience in networking.
Thanks again everyone..

products that helped me to achieved my CCIE.
I used Vol 1, 2 & 3 Workbooks, Mock Labs, Audio Lectures and also the Core Knowledge Simulation.
I would especially like to say that the work that has been done on
Volume 1 Version 5 is outstanding. There is so much detail for each
task. This update to Vol 1 really helped me to fill in the gaps.
I would recommend Internetwork Expert products to anyone who wants to pursue a CCIE.

after I gathered some extensive experience while being CCNP
certified. May 2008 I passed my written exam and since then
everything has changed - all candidates know how many time and private live must be sacrified for intensive studies on road to CCIE.
After about 11 months of doing labs and trying out technologies, reading DocCD and self organized training I failed in march 2009 on my first attempt in Brussels. It wasn't disappointment for me because I had really good feeling about the exam and Score Report confirmed that - I was very close to pass. Never say die ;) Although I took in the
meantime some mocklabs there were another weaknesses which I had to work on, and after that in may 2009 I passed my lab in Brussels on second attempt.
Regarding my preparations I would strongly recommend all CCIE RS
candidates to use IEWB Workbooks as they are "technology" and "why" oriented - the purpose is really to teach the student to think and
prepare for exam with understanding of covered topics. And that is
the coolest thing on that study materials. On the other site -
knowing documentation is essential.
To summarize the story - usage of good workbooks combined with hard self-motivated training and study approach (this one from IE/Brians is in my opinion the best) will lead every candidate to success not only by passing the exam but also later on the daily job.
Kind regards,
Piotr Kaczor

I can't believe it yet! I must be dreaming. I swear that I'm dreaming.
For the past 4 nights (2 days before the exam and 2 days after) I
couldn't sleep more than 5h per night, I was just way too nervous.
I just received the email from Cisco... "Congratulations on passing

Special thanks go to Bogdan Sass (CCIE 22221) who made me believe this

I thought I'd write back and let you know that I sat and passed my CCIE R&S lab exam in Sydney on Friday.
The INE workbook products were great and I utilized Workbook II mostly for my preparation. I took the approach of using them as a learning tool, taking the time to read and understand the underlying topic / technology and how it needed to be applied to meet the requirements of the question.
I would definitely recommend these workbooks to others and plan on pursuing the Security track with the assistance of INE in the future.

I am excited and very pleased to inform you that I passed my R&S Lab on Tuesday in Hong Kong! I can't thank you enough for the work you guys do on a daily basis and the fine products products you create.
It is really great how accessible you are to the students and have found the time to respond to my emails even though you all are very busy. Petr your QOSv5 workbook is just unbelievable and really put me over the top on QOS. Anyway, I hope to personally meet all of you in the future at a Cisco Networkers conference. Thanks again for all you guys do!
Cheers,

The materials are great, covering wide range of topics that appear on
the lab. Remote labs are very similar to the real LAB equipment, so I
recommend it to anyone preparing for the exam. Passing the lab in the
first attempt is quite an achievement, and I've made it thanks to You
guys!

I've made CCNP/DP/SP/IP and then... I've changed job and I didn't have time to learn to any cert.
Last year I've decided to change job again and to any job that let me fulfill my CCIE dream. And here I am. Half year later with my CCIE R/S number.
Thanks to Anthony and Scott (12 bootcamp), I've finally manage it. This structured approach really works.

I wish to thank the team at InternetworkExpert for putting together great materials for CCIE candidates. I purchased and used the Class On Demand, Audio and Lab
Breakdown. InternetworkExpert materials is a MUST for every CCIE candidate. This helped me in Knowing the Technology.
My advice is: Know the Technology and Do as many labs as possible especially InternetworkExpert 7,8,9,10,11 and back.

I think what helped the most was taking the extra effort to research every topic I didn't understand as completely as possible and focus more on making sure I'd seen each configuration at least once and understood the answers and topic. It was not so much getting it right the first time, but getting it right the second time that counted. All three workbooks were phenomenal!

I want to thank IE so much for everything. You guys are truly an amazing team! You have an amazing product and a real dedication and passion for this stuff. It was truly an honor!
I took my written exam right about the middle of August. I began studying for the written at the beginning of May, so I have been at this for about 10 or 11 months. I took my first attempt about a month ago and came pretty close but obviously didn't pass. I was really worried about the short answer questions because they hadn't been implemented yet on my last attempt. Fear of the unknown! I have to say that they were a bit of a let down. The questions I got did not seem difficult to me. I didn't spend more than 5 minutes answering them.
I spent the last 2 weeks studying nothing but theory. I read Anthony's CCIE R & S Quick Reference sheets, I read several of the core chapters from Odom's book and I read the Summary pages for all the core technologies from the Cisco Site. I felt overly prepared and I was. The exam felt like a breeze this time but it also felt like a breeze last time. I really felt like I didn't have any questions on the technologies this time though, where last time I did feel that way in a couple areas. I think that studying the theory over the last couple weeks really helped fill in a few areas that I didn't realize I was weak in. I really moaned and groaned about the theory questions when they were anounced but I think it may have actually been beneficial for me.
Anyway, good luck to all you guys who have a date coming up! You will probably see me back here in a few months getting ready for the Security track.

I gave my exam on 9th February and guess what I failed. After leaving the examination hall I was sure that I will pass this exam.
On the same day around 10, I got the mail from Cisco , in which I failed and I was shocked by looking the result .I got zero in one of the technology but rest of them are fine.
I first thought of re-read my exam, but then I went through some blog where everybody was negative about re-read.
After that day, I used to go to Cisco site to check my result twice a day and also for checking the date available for my second attempt.
Because after that week also, I was not able to decide whether to go for re-read or to go for second attempt
In the mean time I finish up my IE vol ver 5 and started reading book on QoS an BGP, just preparing for my second attempt.
Later that week when I was going through my result in Cisco, I decided to go for re-read and I clicked on re-read.
Yesterday morning when I was going through my mail, I received the congratulation mail from Cisco and here I am part of CCIE family.
I like to thank all people in this Group and my wife for her support while I was preparing for this and especially in that last week, when I failed the exam.
Here are some of tip from my side
IE ver 5 is awesome, do it at least once or twice depending on how much time you have.
Do not worry about open-ended question.
Make habit of sitting for 8 hour and doing lab and if you don't able to answer anything in your practice lab, try to search in that Cisco URL does not lookup the answers in middle of the lab.
Apart from your knowledge, I thing your result also depend upon, your speed and how well you are familiar with Cisco URL.
I was able to finish my exam in 5 hour and I spent three hour in verification and testing results.
Best of luck.

Very happy to let you folks know that I cleared my CCIE security lab today in bangalore. It was my first CCIE and my second attempt. I would like to congratulate IE on the wonderful products, IE-SC Vol1 and IE-SC Vol2.
To start out with, after my initial preparation, I used Vol1. It covered numerous technology based case studies. The one on VPN was simply broad and indepth covering a lot of areas. Even all the others like IPS, Firewall were excellent. These gave me a very concrete foundation after my initial studies. After that I went for Vol2.
I liked Vol2 a lot. There is a very good mix of technologies and I found the IE labs to have greater content, building of scenarios on top of previous ones, plenty of constraints etc. So they really load you up if you do all 10 labs. Some of the labs forces one not to use the standard approach of setting things up, instead using a lateral/alternate approach. As weird and strange these questions and answers sounded to me, it opened up new possibilities and ways of looking at things. Some of the questions I got for my second attempt were not easy to interpret or just simply seemed impossible on the first reading. But using a thought process picked up by using these Vol2 labs I figured out the answers. When I got the answers I wasnt 100% sure if they were correct by cisco criteria. But this much I know; if those answers turned out to be wrong I would have lost enough points to fail. So they had to be correct.
Once again thank you very much. I wouldnt think of another product for my next track.

By October I was able to scrounge enough equipment to making a working solution for your design. I then began non-stop lab work (with a full-time job). I am fortunate to have access to a few co-workers/friends that are already CCIEs, to discuss things with. I sat for the lab on February 9th and received a FAIL grade. I doubted some of the results I got and after a few days of deep thought, I requested a re-read. I received the results this morning with the grade changed to PASS! Just wanted to say thanks for building such a great product.

Many people say this but I can repeat this all time - without IE materials I wouldn't have come so close to this certification level.
It took about two years to achieve it.
I used primarily Dynamips and IE-RS-WB II, polymorphic labs. Also, 10 days before the exam I took a mock lab, which put all my knowledge and strengths together. I would recommend IE to all canididates and people who wants just to keep all knowledge up to date.
Again thanks, keep going!

Without the CoD's, Bootcamp, Rack rentals and Mock Labs, I wouldn't have been anywhere near ready.
All of the IE material helped me to understand not only the technology but the also study approach and lab strategy needed to pass.
I had several lab attempts before using IE and I just wished I had invested in the study materials a long time ago.
Thanks again!

That being said this would have been far more difficult without the help of Internetwork Expert. Their study materials beat the competition hands down and have been an integral part in helping me focus my efforts in the correct areas. I thoroughly recommend their Mock Labs in the final stages.

Before my first attempt I was lucky to sign up with the new Poly-Lab Assessment beta program. From the assessment lab I can see grade report and how the script grades the lab. It gives me a good idea how the actual lab is graded. I agree with IE's statement: "This is the best tool to measure your training progress in the industry today". I hope there will be same product for the other tracks soon!

Initially I've bought only the COD. Couple of months later I have made the final four in the "Real people scholarship program" and I've got the End-to-End R&S course as a price for reaching the final.
After the COD I started on the unbelievable Workbooks 1 and then 2.
Most of the scenarios I did in Dynamips and on real equipment that I had from my work place. I could see the difference in self confidence after only 5 WB2 labs. I did my first attempt after 12 WB labs and I was short +\- 6,7 points. For my second attempt I did the whole 20 labs and guess what - I PASSED!!!
I truly believe that IEs are the best learning tool there is on the market today. I felt from the beginning that they're teaching me the technology in depth instead of teaching the tricks and cheats of the exam.
Thanks for everything Brians(X2), Petr, Anthony and Scott (the evil dude).

For preparation I used your IEWB-RS-DYN Vol2, Mock labs 2-4, Dynamips, some Cisco Press books, and CCO. It took me about 10 months to prepare.
Strongly recommend everyone use IEWB, it's tougher than the real Lab so you would've been well prepared if you went through all the WB Labs.

I did my written exam in July 2007 but i had to take a break to study for a linux certification so i didn't start studying for my CCIE labs until 2008 January.
My first four months of studies were with IE COD and IE volume 1, Then i attended boot camp in Dubai which was a real eye opener for me.Started work with the workbooks and for my full labs i used IE vol 2.
I will like to use this opportunity to thank all those who have been helpful to me in my journey my class mates in Narbik bootcamp (Sadki, Pitt, Vignesh, Femi, Dawood, george, Badal, yap, dapasina) , I want to thank narbik for the wonderfull bootcamp and support. Thank all u guys that have been answering my questions in GS Scott moris, the other Scott,Jared, e.t.c u guys are the best. To my study partners in Nigeria,i wish u all the best especially with the mobile center comming up soon in Lagos Nigeria.U guys will come good.
This are the list of materials i Used:
1.Narbiks Soup and Nuts.
2.Narbiks Advanced Routing and Switching Workbook.(5 volumes)
3.IE COD.
4.IE vol 1
5.IE vol 2.
6.Scotts Moris audio lectures.Hope there is one for SP.
As for the open ended question, I don't think u need to prepare any differently. It's just a way of checking your level of prep .Easy questions really but watch the wordings though may also want to know that you are only allowed to fail a maximum of one.
I will have to hibernate now for a month. Can't wait to start reading something else.SP.

I want to inform you that I've passed the R&S lab exam on friday 6 feb on my first attempt.
I used IE Volume 1, Volume 2, Mock labs, Poly labs, Rack rentals and dynamips.
I started to prepare for the lab on January 2007 and 3 weeks before my lab I prepared 12-13 hours/day( doing labs, reading doccd and watching video materials at home without any pressure or disturbance).
I considered the lab at a rate of 7.5- 8 comparing with the difficulty of the IE Labs.
2 of the Open Ended questions was not so easy and made me think verry carefully about what they want from me and the other 2 questions were verry easy if you know the staff.
The diagrams from IE are very nice comparing with the diagrams from lab and I make my own diagram with colours/pencils.
I finished the lab in 5 hours and 30 minutes and I had enogh time to recheck all tasks twice and I found two faults and I corrected them.
I want to say that IE COD materials were great and helped me a lot(I watched 4-5 times all materials) .
I've done VOL2 1-20 labs 3 times (2 times using dynamips and one time using IE Rack Rentals) ,Mock Labs 1-7 -2 times (the average score was between 80-90 %) and Vol1.v5 1 time using dynamips and read it 2 more times.
I used also Open Lecture series (Video Materials) -watched them one time.
I could't made it for the first time without IE materials.

Thanks to internetwork expert and their step-by-step learning curriculum I was able to not be overwhelmed with the amount of material while still being able to prepare for my test. Besides the wealth of knowledge I gained from the camp and class it was great just to see your approach to problem areas and advice on lab strategy etc, it took a lot of stress off before I sat the real thing and definitely helped my time management (your voice kept playing in my head every time I started spending too long on one task). Also the lab workbook kept my knowledge tested and expectations in check, no matter how ready I thought I was there was always something in there that would bring me back down to earth.
Like just about everyone on the CCIE track I've built up a lot of resources in lab equipment, books, CBTs etc. but I can easily say that the Internetwork Expert components were the single most influential in helping me pass.
Kudos and thanks again. I'll be back someday for R&S....

IE is special in that its material actually TEACHES you. Unlike others, there is no cramming, lists of gotchas, watch outs and as Brian Dennis says, no stupid router tricks.
I have attended a boot camp from an instructor and used lab workbooks from some other vendors. Although they are good but nothing matches IE in quality and continuous improvement. If you have only one choice, its InternetworkExpert.
The CoD modules are thorough, explain the technology in great detail and do not cut on time. All backed up by excellent articles on the blog and clear & concise answers to the questions. I don't know if any other vendor has such excellent blogs where there are ONLY TECHNICAL discussions without any vendor war involved.
Brians, Scott, Peter and Anthony are all eager to help you LEARN the technology and that's what has created a lot of respect for them.
Thanks guys for your excellent support. To all R&S candidates, I will highly recommend IE.
Do not go for your exam without attempting the Mock Labs first. They look simple and easy but really shock you when you get a 54 while expecting 80s.

'The Journey' started in Jan 2003. It was a long road and a rough ride, sometimes side-tracked by other priorities or commitments. But I finally reached there.
Why did I choose IT as a career track?
As I was completing my High School in the year 2000, I knew that Computers & IT is an area of immense growth potential. I was aware that Oracle, as an ERP and MIS solution, was being implemented in my fathers workplace (a large air-conditioner manufacturer) and the expert IT professionals were being paid to the tune of USD 400 an hour to get the job done. So yes, as a 17-year-old guy, I pretty much knew what I was going to do in future professionally.
How did this decision lead to Network Engineering as a career?
After High School, I got admitted to Pakistan prestigious institute, The University of Karachi, in its revered Department of Computer Science. My peers were gold-medalists, A-1 graders, high-achievers from the various big high schools, so the pressure was immense. To stay afloat among such good peers, I had to work very hard. Frankly I was led to the decision of taking up Computer Networking as a career because I couldn't otherwise stand out from the crowd of beyond-cool Computer Programmers in my Graduate class.
What resources did I use to prepare?
I took the long road, doing my CCNA in the year 2005, CCNP in 2007 and finally CCIE. I would still recommend this long road because although CCNA or CCNP may not be industry certifications any more but these certs definitely lay the right foundation. I used several resources from time to time, including: Books: Routing TCP IP
Vol.1+2 (Jeff Doyle), BCMSN (David Hucaby), CCIE Official Exam Cert Guide (Wendell Odom), Workbooks: IEWB Vol.2 (InternetworkExpert.com), Narbik Kocharians Adv Tech Workbook, OOnline Classes: Class-on-Demand

It was so confusing at the time, I was unsure on how to prepare. A couple of years later I heard about Internetwork Expert's products.
I used the Class on Demand to gain a deeper understanding of the topics and the Lab Workbook II to practice. After going through both thoroughly I was able to pass my lab on my 2nd "REAL" attempt. I new all of the answers the first time, I just did not have my speed down.
On my passing attempt, I was done 2 hours early and was able to go back and verify again that my configurations were working as the lab required. And making Workbook II for use on Dynamips really helped keep the cost down.

I would like to that both Brian McGahan and Brian Dennis. I used Advanced Technologies Class on Demand, Workbooks 1 and 2, plus attended the CCIE R&S boot camp lead by Brian McGahan in May 2008, of which met and exceeded my expectations and brought me that much closer to my CCIE number.
Another big plus was the support. By the support staff and both Brians! Not only is the reply/response time fast, but you are always made to feel as a professional!
I just purchased the CCIE Security package, and I am sure I will enjoy the same success as I did with the R&S track from Internetwork Expert.
Thanks again Brian McGahan and Brian Dennis!

I have been using Volume I & II workbooks extensively while preparing for the lab and I have been reading all the posts on your blog.
I also had the opportunity to use volume I version 5.0 beta workbook and I must say it is an impressive source of knowledge in R&S field that can even be used as a quick reference for daily work.
Thanks a lot to the IE team!

I'm very happy about my investment on Internetwork Expert. I used the self-paced program. I watch the COD 2 times. also I was very lucky, 3 days before my exam the VOL1 Ver 5 for IP services and system management released. its a real GEM and is a MUST.
The other special unique specification of Internetwork Expert is its people. the people whom take care of students, especially Mr Anthony who helped me a lot.
Internetwork expert was recommended to me by a friend and I recommend to everyone who would like to get it in the first attempt.

I got CCIE passed yesterday.
It was so easy to me since I did your practice material many many times. I did Internetwork Expert Workbook Volume 1, then Internetwork Expert Workbook Volume 2 Lab 1-20 twice, Internetwork Expert Workbook 3 Core lab twice.
I used my Dynamips, but lent a rack for a week for the switching technology at last. The lab exam was so easy to me than I expect 'cause I already know what they asking.
Now I think I am more higher level than CCIE that Cisco calls.
Thank you Internetwork Expert again, and wish to have a good luck with all of you.

8 months using your workbooks (Volume I, II & III) and indeed these are great stuff to help you prepare for the real lab. All the content are excellent from the 4 hours lab focused on developing your speed and accuracy at the Core technologies to the 8 hours full lab on which I had identified my weaknesses. CCIE was a great journey and I am looking forward on getting another one (SP) using again your materials. Thanks and more power to the IE team!

I bought self paced End-to-End program in March 2008 and used a lot of rack rental for hand-on practical experience.
So I want to thank Internetwork Expert for these incredibly great series of products.

But I thought that it would be a great practice for me. A lot of experience in the technique and having some fun. Not at all to get the number. So I started by getting my written. This took about 2 months, because I already had 3 of my 5 CCSP certificates. End September 2007 I started practicing with the Internetwork Expert study material. At the beginning once a week, but when time passed more every week.
In the end, just before my exam I had 2 weeks off and did 10 hours+ per day. My speed was building every day. The first lab I did in 3 days, but in the end I did it in 5 hours. This was the base of a successful first attempt at 13th of October 2008. Now I have my number!!!!

With all the labs, including the mock labs, I probably did about 35 different labs and about a dozen of those I did twice. When I did the real lab I felt like it was nothing really new because I had already done so many before that. The way I looked at it, while it takes many people multiple times to pass, I already had about 50 realistic labs as practice for it - many of those harder than what the real lab would be.
It worked for me and I would recommend it to anyone who is pursuing their CCIE. The entire IE team including the two Brians and the support staff are great. Both the Brians bring a wealth of knowledge from both the lab and real-world perspective and they cover the different topics very well. They teach you about all the topics and you really do learn about them as opposed to learning just how to pass the lab. As for the support staff, I have talked with Alissa and Mike and they were both extremely helpful. You guys are great.
I am going to take some time off from studying and doing labs but if I do decide to pursue another track I will definitely come back to Internetwork Expert. Thanks guys for all your help!!!

I started with networking in October 2006 when I bought a CCNA book just out of global interest, before that I was an MCSE and worked with servers and did some programming.
After I got my CCNA I got a full-time job in networking and went on with CCNP and when I finished that I immediately started my CCIE study and within 10 months I got my number in first attempt at the age of 21! And I definitely know that I found my passion!

I had big doubts on becoming CCIE. And I was not sure in myself up until the time that I first talk to Michael Bishop. He re-assured me that Internetwork Expert has an excellent training package and with hard work on my part I will succeed. Everything was true. I ordered the program and studied hard. The quality of the materials are excellent - everything is there - theory, practice labs, verifications. I also attended to boot camp where I got the chance to meet Brian Dennis, Petr Lapukhov and other members of the Internetwork Expert team. I thank all of them because they played a major role in my success, especially to the super genius Petr - for his enormous dedication and help.

What a journey this year has been. I have been close to making a serious attempt at the CCIE R&S lab exam for the last couple of years but never felt like I was really ready. I used 'other' training materials from your competitors as well as training classes from Cisco authorized training partners but none of them prepared me for the lab exam like IE's products did.
There are no shortcuts when it comes to passing the lab exam - hard work, self-sacrifice, study, and practice, practice, practice are the key. You provide a mountain of material to master and as you have said before - if everyone makes the effort, they will be rewarded by passing the lab exam as a by-product of their understanding of the technologies and how they operate together - not because they can deal with scenarios they have seen before in practice lab after practice lab. The real exam was a perfect example of this - it will test the limits of your fundamental knowledge, so come prepared and be confident in what you have learned.
I passed my CCIE R&S lab in RTP on my first attempt and would be honored to be added to 'the list'!
Sincerely,
Aundra Browning

Later I decided to add to this workbook Vol 3. I've done almost all of the Mock Labs. I've attempted the first lab exam in June, but failed. Without wasting time I continued working on the labs, doing again Vol 2 and 3, and then putting emphasis on the topics I felt weak in from Vol 1. I continued listening to the CoD lectures, finding reminders and explanations to different nuances I missed earlier. Working on the full-size labs improved my time management during the lab, while concentrating on

I have been working with Cisco Networking equipment since year 2000 and started at the bottom working with relatively simple low-end ISDN routers (Does anyone remember the Cisco 700 series routers :o)). Over the next 7-years I followed the standard certification path of attaining CCNA,CCNP and CCIP, but like so many others I couldn't really commit the time to studying for CCIE due to that fact I was to busy at work.
In January this year I decided that for once in my life I would put myself first and I took the CCIE written exam. At the end of February I had received my Internetworkexpert workbooks and put a training plan in place...
...All of the hard work above paid off and I attained my CCIE R&S number this morning. I thought the exam was tough, but fair (not as tough as IE Labs).
I cant say enough about the Internetworkexpert material and approach to studying. My studying was based on the Internetworkexpert CCIE end-to-end program and I believe the structured approach was key in me passing the exam.
A very special thanks to Brian Dennis and Petr Lapukhov who were my instructors on the bootcamp in April and the Mock Lab week in June. Their experience and knowledge was very valuable to me. I didn't have the opportunity to meet Brian and Scott but know they are both equally valuable assets to the IE team. Thanks also to Michael Bishop who was my IE Sales advisor who was very helpful in setting up my IE CCIE end-to-end program.
Thanks a lot and good luck to you all.

I graduated from university last year. I had a new goal after I graduated, that was the CCIE R&S. I started my CCIE R&S journey with watching the CoD videos. It took me about 10 days to finish all videos with note taking. Then I started Workbook I. It took me about 1 month to finish all the minilabs in it. After that I started working on Workbook volume II. It took me another month to finish most of it. The third month i went back to study WorkBook I because I felt its importance in emphasizing the basics. The fourth month was the time to take the exam. I signed up to take it in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia mobile CCIE lab. It was required from me to pass an assessor exam which was a mini CCIE exam. I took that exam and I scored the required grade. My exam was confirmed on 20th of July 2008. I had 20 days to go, I spent the next days revising WorkBook I and WorkBook II. Also I spent some time going through Cisco Documentation CD. The night before the exam I slept at 10 p.m and next day started my exam at 7:30. I had a good start but faced some problems before the break. After the break I fixed everything and completed all the sections 1 hour before the time is up. I had 1 hour to revise everything. The next day I received the good news that I've become CCIE #21536 :)

It is with great joy and jubilation that I make the announcement that I have successfully passed the CCIE R&S lab on Friday May 16, 2008 and I am proud to wear the badge of Cisco CCIE number 20854, after a number of attempts(too many for my liking)!!!
It has been a huge learning curve for me throughout this whole process and I can say 'thank you' for providing me with the complete tools for acquiring the knowledge and understanding of this broad topic. Without the great teaching and explanations in depth of all the technologies required for the lab but also furthermore for the opportunity to face real world application, situation and scenarios and to be equipped with a foundation of information and technical understanding that I could find nowhere else.
You Brian's are the number one instructors out there and the service, advice and consultations provided by Mike and his crew has been top class from the beginning. I am planning to make use of the COD course's for my future endeavors as a reference tool as I continue to expand my current level to a professional scale and I know that I will make use of the other products that are available, some of which I already have been a subscriber to, namely, Voice COD and Service Provider COD. Your workbook labs were great and really push me that extra step I needed to pass the lab. The mock labs were realistic and made me aware of the attention to detail one needs in the lab.
It's been a long while coming but definitely worth the wait. Rest assured I'll continue to recommend Internetwork Expert products!

I passed the CCIE Lab on Sunday April 06, 2008 in Dubai and felt you should know.
I want to thank you very much for your part in the making of this. I used your workbooks (Vol 1 -3), Dynamips workbooks, COD, etc.
Even though I failed the first time with your products, I reckoned it was because I hadnt given much time into studying and preparing. I had skipped several labs in your workbooks and fast-forwarded or skipped several slides in the COD. Tough work schedules you know?
For my second attempt, all I did was spend much more time with the IE COD and Cisco DOC CD topics very well, especially on my weak areas and labbed some tasks on dynamips.
At last, I have a number. You wont believe I'm weeping at this good news!
Greetings from the people of Ghana, West Africa.

I was in the March 2008 12 Day Bootcamp with you guys. I truly believe that you guys helped me finalize my lab preparation. Before the class I knew I was prepared for the lab, but by the end of the class I knew I was ready to pass my fourth attempt. On April 6th, I did just that. I stuck to my plan that I adopted from you guys and it paid off with a PASS.
I would like to thank both of Brians and all the employees at IE for putting out amazing products that I used in my preparations and for being incredible teachers as the 12 Day Bootcamp was the final thing to push me over the wall to success.

for the security I used only your rack rentals and the Volume 2 workbook, but oh boy that document is well done and the labs are way more difficult that the real one. I relied mostly on the Cisco website as a replacement for the Volume 1 workbook. But again, hands down to the Brians, and also I learned that the incredible Scott Morris is now part of the team, this is unfair to the competition (just kidding) . You are great and please remain great, my next step is either Voice or Service Provider, but for now, I will take a rest ( a year or two, unless I decide to take my career another direction sooner than that , which I seem to do a lot lately ). In any case whenever I decide to come back to the cisco certification scene, you guys definitely will be my reference !!!

Although I have been working in the industry, designing
and implementing networks for 12+ years, there was a LOT I was unfamiliar with. In the spring of 07, I set a stake in the ground to try to pass the lab in May. I went through several labs, and a mock lab from IE. The Mock Labs gave me a pretty fair indicator of what I still needed to work on.
(...) I had practiced the techniques that the Brians promoted, I had
been boning up on my services, and I passed with flying colors (Or at least an 80). (...) I liked all of the labs that I worked on, some more
challenging than others. One that I think helped open my eyes to other possibilities (in Layer 3) was Lab 12. I liked how it had two separate routing AS's and they didn't get redistributed, but used BGP - I recommend that one to get a grip on routing protocol interaction. Thanks again for all of the assistance. I know I will always recommend Internetwork Expert to anyone looking to pass this test.

The journey was tough, but the CCIE R&S End-to-End package that I purchased was of great help. I have come across so many of my colleagues who are good with the implementation, but do not understand the theory behind it.. The Internetwork Expert package gave me the leading edge.
The Class-on-Demand (CoD) and the workbooks were awesome. I studied the CoDs, practiced the 20 labs in detail. In fact I have never come across such meticulously planned study material. I have been recommending the same to everyone around me.
A big THANK YOU to both the Brians , to you Kady, and the whole Internetwork Expert team for your invaluable contribution.

It has been a wonderful trip rewarded by my R&S CCIE pass first shot on March 11th in Dubai, I have to say it hasn't been possible without your COD, Vol I, Vol II in particular and the rest of your product lines in general which I bought them all. The COD is a master piece that I have watched over and over and made tons of notes that helped me master the technologies and not merely configuration. I'd recommend your COD or All.

I want to thank both of you for all of your help and your products. I passed my R&S lab on Mar 10th in RTP. This was my 4th attempt total but only my second after using your products. To be honest I should have passed the previous time but had a complete brain dump and could not answer a simple question that I had done before multiple times. The two previous times I used a different vendors material and a different approach. That being said until I started with your end-to-end program I had many holes in my knowledge on certain topics which your COD and boot camps pointed out to me then filled those knowledge gaps. I was blown away with your professionalism and the way that you conduct business. No matter how dumb I thought the question was you always seemed to put it in a way that made it seem like it was great that I asked the question. I have had other experiences where I was made to feel like an idiot for even asking the question. My situation has been a little different because my job has me in the Middle East quite often supporting our troops but your products were the perfect thing for me to use while traveling.I would highly recommend you to anyone and have the other 7 engineers here using your products. I will be going for my service provider after a little break so I will be talking to you again in the future. Thanks again for all of your help.

I write to you tonight in joy, after having passed my CCIE Routing & Switching today, on the 4th of February in Brussels. I'm a great fan of your products and support, and I owe a huge part of my success to you, Brian D., Brian McG. and all the helpful and knowledgeable staff at Internetwork Expert.
I have used the entire line of products that you offer for R&S, and I've been amazed at the quality of all of them!! Without exception, I would recommend everything, and especially the Class-on-Demand really is a jewel, at all stages of the preparation.
By using your awesome products, and by investing also a great deal of my time, commitment and talent, I today became CCIE #19943, Routing & Switching.

I wanted to drop you a note thanking you tremendously for the study materials you have put together. I think it woud have been impossible to start studying and pass the R&S lab within 6 months without your ATC-COD, and Version 4 Workbooks Vol. 1-3. The only thing required from the candidate is time and effort.
I will probably start my SP studies in February, and will definietly be purchasing the same package from you. I am really excited about becoming a double-CCIE. :)

The workbooks were great as they helped me learn all of the technologies I didn't know and gave me a refresher of the technologies I did know. More importantly, the workbooks helped me refine my test taking process. I went into the lab with a lot of confidence after working through these workbooks.
I found the Class on Demand to be invaluable. There were a few topics that I struggled with no matter how much I read the documentation and tried labbing them up. The CoD really cleared the air for me on these topics and I went into the lab exam knowing I could answer any question on any of those topics.
Thanks to Internetwork Expert, I too am an expert.

It's clear that the lab workbook lab has been carefully think (designed) to lead you into problems, this is excellent because there are a lots of things that you can't get just by reading documentation. I am still thinking about the preparing for the SP but not sure since I feel I need a rest, anyway if I decide to go for it I will definitely come back to you and also will not hesitate to recommend you to other people. ... I do not know how to say thank you. What a good Xmas present I have given to myself thanks to your products. I passed on my 3rd attempt, on my first two I used another popular vendor and although I thought I knew my stuff, I failed on the first two attempts. Then I found you guys and ohh God I used the technology Labs and the Workbooks together with Dynamips. It cemented all my knowledge potholes. Then I took the mock exam, although I failed that, the review showed me where and how I was losing points.
Long story short I passed on Friday and the number is 19643 and hey I just realised I may be the first Ghanaian CCIE!!!!!! (From Cisco's Stats there is no recorded person for Ghana)

Thought I'd let you know that I sat the CCIE lab in Brussels yesterday and passed (no. 19501)! - To say I'm over the moon would be a slight understatement. I was extremely honoured to meet you guys in Reno and at that stage I never thought I could get close to the same level of knowledge that you all had.
In the intervening period, I've been hard at work on the IE labs. - Basically completed all 20 and went back to the core ones mentioned by Brian. I took all the labs at my own pace, studied technologies I was weak on and took copious notes! The week before going to Brussels, I read through all the lab sections on IP services and ensured I could implement all of these without referring to the DocCD. To be honest, it was only really at this stage that I felt it had all come together. I went to Brussels for the weekend and used the time just to read over the notes I'd made.
Thank you guys for your various notes of encouragement on route and good luck for those still to get through. (If I can get through anyone can!).
A special thanks to the 2 Brians from IE. - I've followed your program more or less all the way through from the online ATC and definitely could not have done this without you. To my mind, you've got a great product delivered by a genuine company that offers excellent value for money. I've got the number now, but I honestly feel that I'm a better engineer having gone through this. - I'd recommend you to anyone.

The materiall that I used was IE workbook , the Brians are awesome, doing the tech labs and full labs really help me out to understanding the technologies.
The book that became my best friend for the last months was the CCIE R&S second edition I believe the third edition is out there already.
I don't know how many hours spent working on labs I guess I lost the count after the first month
I used rack rental times, they are awesome I never had a problem and the support in case something went wrong is great, they answer my questions in no time.

What got me the entire time was question interpretation. I felt like I knew the material the entire time and had a good base of knowledge. My problem I think was question interpretation. On my 4th attempt it was like I could see through the vague wording and finally understood what they wanted. I only asked the proctor 2 questions as I found it pretty clear.
To all those that are struggling with this I hear ya. But just know if you stick with it you can pass.
What I used to pass:
- 10 years experience designing and implementing Cisco networks for various Fortune 100 companies.
- Internetwork Expert V4.0 workbook and the Advanced Technologies VOD and the 5 day bootcamp VOD. These are really great products and I learned immensely from them. I would highly recommend their material for learning the technologies...
- The Cisco Press CCIE R&S book. Good for the written and has some good tables for reference.
- I built my own home lab made to the IEWB V4.0 format. I decided I wanted my own lab that I could use anytime I had time to study and didn't want to deal with rack rentals or dealing with all the Dynamips issues.
- Finally but definitely not least was my wife. She supported me through the tough times and entertained two kids every evening and every weekend for about 8 months straight. I could not have done it without her.

I cannot join words together, my brain stopped and my fingers shivered. Sorry from everyone.
I took lab exam today in RTP and this is my first attempt.
Firstly...I want to thank God.
I want to thank my wife, my family and my two daughters. I could not pass without their support. When I started my lab preparation, one of my daughters was just born. Even my other daughter (who is 3 years old) supported me to work on my lesson. My family went to other location on every weekend to give me working chance. It was very difficult to separate from them.
I would like to thank Brian Dennis and Brian McGahan for their product: IE Workbook 3.0 and 4.0. Really, it was a great one.
I would like to thank proctors in RTP, especially to Howard.
And I would like to thank my boss and friends in my company. Their support was important.
I started my journey in 1999, I became CCNP in 2001 and lost in 2005. Then I became CCNP again and CCIP in 2006 October. I started my CCIE journey in 2006 November. Firstly I passed CCIE Written Exam then I established a home rack. At beginning I read, just reading. I read all books in CCIE lab lists, I think their number reached to 25. I bought IE Lab WB and tried to apply all information in my home rack. (2x3350, 2x2620, 2x2611 and other 2500 series) My rack was not enough to cover the whole subjects, but believe me if you know the technology and how to apply, you can cover them. I finished all 30 lab in IEWB Lab 3.0, I examined everthing and I ask myself: What did I learn, did I know really and can I apply them? I returned all equipments in home rack and continued working with dynamips. I finished 15 of IEWB Lab 4.0, I examined DocCD two times (Configuration guide and command references, but I used only two times in lab), I finished Cisco ASET labs and decide to take lab exam. There are many many subjects, I am 37 years old and I feel I will no be able to cover all of them even I am 50 years old. I went to RTP before two days. I tried to create my lab strategy last night. (At this point, I want to thank all of you, I learned many things in this group) In the real exam, I was so nervous in the morning. I tried to talk other candidates. My rules:
1- I read all questions, taking small notes.
2- I asked all questions that I cannot be sure.
I left two security questions, I had no enough time and they possibly cause I lose some other points.
Now, I want to sleep and go to my family as soon as possible. I will bring them to a short holiday.
I wish good luck to everyone. Take care of you!

After close to 6 years of getting my CCNP, and less than three years of getting my written exam, I have passed my R&S lab on my third attempt.
I had used your lab workbooks for over a year and a half, but to tell you the truth what actually made a big difference was the Advanced Technologies on-demand course. It was a whole new experience listening to Brians putting their experience verbally. I have learned lots of things, and realized the mistakes that I was doing. I also followed their strategy for the lab (reading it all through, putting a table with points of accomplished tasks, etc...). This proved greatly useful, although I was skeptic of such approach when I heard it.
Thanks guys, you are doing a great job. I am now more enthusiastic than ever to gain one or more additional CCIE certifications (security, and service provider).

I really would would like to say thank you very much for making it possible.
I've used all your products and they are ALL worth it!!! I did NOT use anyother workbook or class on demand I only used your products they made it possible.
I started with the Class on Demand which is in my opinion the BEST material available for the CCIE preparation. You guys deserve the Oscar for this video. I watched it twice and I can easily still watch that many more time as anytime I learn a new thing !!! While I was watching the video I used the Audio Class which is perfect to enphasize the class on demand, what a great job by Brian M.
Then I moved to the Core WB... it does exactly what it is for. It has some redistribution scenarion that made me cry and feel I would never really understand redistribution but after doing it twice things become better. Great value for money !!!
You well known R&S WB... it doesn't need any comment as it's simply the BEST !!! When I was doing the real lab I thought I was doing one of your labs !!! That summarizes everything about the WB.
Mock Labs.... tough ones but great so have external view on my preparation. I used that like the real lab, I scheduled that to start at 11:00 am my time, did that for 4 hours, had a 30 min break, 4 more hours.
Bootcamp, I attended your 5 days bootcamp and that was fantastic!!! I had a really hard week as it was starting at 3:00 pm my time and due to the volume of the material covered (GREAT MATERIAL) I was not going to bed until 4:00 am and one day, on Thursday and thanks to Brian M 8 hour scenario it didn't go to bed until 9:00 am !!!! It was ALL WORTH !!!
I can only HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL YOUR PRODUCTS but if I have to choose one I would say get the Class on Demand !!!! I will one day put it on a plasma TV and watch as if it was a movie. I'm a big fan of it !!!
Many thanks guys.

I just wanted to let you know that I passed my CCIE lab on Wednesday 5th September and I am CCIE #18773.
Many thanks for producing such detailed and challenging workbooks which have allowed me to reach my one of my professional goals.
My next goal will be the SP CCIE as I currently consult extensively in this area. I know that my first port of call will be your SP workbooks when I am preparing for my next lab!

I'm a bit late in writing to Internetwork Expert, since it's already been three weeks since I passed the lab. I've used your classic Routing and Switching workbook, first in its version 3.0, then 4.0 and 4.1. As you can see, your investment protection program proved useful, and is one of the main reasons I chose your company over your competitors. Lower price was an other, your good reputation was of course beneficial, and the availability of the sample lab with complete lab diagrams and list of hardware was a nice move (this way I could slowly build my home lab while preparing for the written, then buy the workbook when I passed it and have then a nearly complete lab, and be ready to dive in lab preparation). ... I also used two graded Mock Labs, and they proved a good preparation for the lab. Brian, in the mock lab introduction, said that people who scored well on all four available mock labs always passed the lab; well, I passed both mock labs I ordered, plus the real one! (That wasn't my first attempt, though.)

I still can't believe that this journey is over. I passed on second attempt in RTP last week. I studied for over 1200 hours in my lab for my first attempt five weeks ago, and obviously failed. Not because of the technology, but because of time management. This time, I managed to finish all the tasks, but did not have time to run my usual TCL scripts or verify my work. I started studying for the CCIE in July 2006 and passed the written exam at the end of October. For my studies, I used Internetwork Experts Class-on-deman, technology labs and workbook version 4. I read all their recommended CCIE books prior to starting the lab. And I also spent a good amount of time reading the DocCD.
I would like to thank all of my friends and family who were very supportive. I want to thank both Brians at Internetwork Expert for their amazing material. I also want to thank my study partner Eric Dobyns for his help in the last few weeks. Thanks to all the smart people on Group Study for posting and answering questions. And finally a big thank you to Howard the proctor in RTP for his patience (sorry if I asked so many questions).
Now that I have an incredible amount of spare time, I might go for the Juniper certifications since it's free.
Best of luck to all of you, in the end it will all be worth it.

I'm writing this email to inform you that I finally passed the CCIE R&S Lab on August the 16th.
I've actually learned what people mean by constantly re-checking the Cisco Website to make sure it is real.
I used your R&S labs scenarios. I did the all the labs more than once. ... I also did one of the Mock Labs back in December and scored an 81. What was eye opening was that typing in the wrong 3rd octed on the NTP actually cost me 6 points.
Anyway thank you both along with IE for the excellent material. I learned some hard lessons along the way and will most likely use your material for the security when I get around to it.

This was my third attempt and this came after a 2 year break in studying. I decided to focus on studies after passing the written (again) back in February. I pretty much studied every day for four months before the attempt. It was very difficult because I work in the TAC which means normally I have to work on cases from home :) I believe my TAC experience is what got me through due to the extensive troubleshooting skills required day-to-day.
I don't know what I can offer for advice that hasn't already been said...but I would say don't give up in your studies. It was very difficult to start all over again from scratch. Just stay focused and committed. Even when you attempt the lab, don't give up. There was at least a couple of points in the lab yesterday where I said, "I'm not doing well...I'm not going to pass."
But, I managed to push myself and the reward is so sweet.
For my studies, I used Internetwork Expert's Class-on-Demand and the Version
4 Lab Workbook. The videos were essential in my understanding of a lot of the subjects. I would also advise to use all of the usual Cisco Press books for reference. The Doc CD also serves as a great reference. After each workbook task, I would search the Doc CD to not only make sure I knew where to find the reference, but also to read up further and understand the feature or technology.
As if everyone didn't know, this is a great community of networking professionals. I found the answers to a lot of my questions here on Groupstudy. Thanks to all those who helped me and didn't even know it :-)

I passed the lab on my third attempt by just using your two Routing and Switching workbooks. I will be comming back for the security. You may place my name in your website. My first attempt I used ccbootcamps back in 2001 but failed the lab. I took 4 years off and then went and bought your workbook which I studied for year and half. I went for my second attempt on January 2007 and failed, my second attempt was on July 6 and made it. Thanks for the excellent workbook.

I have been waiting to send this email, I have passed my R&S lab exam and got my CCIE#. It was a rough ride with ups and downs especially with the new format but at the end it pays to be a CCIE.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Internetwork Expert team for putting together such a wonder workbook with the new lab format. I have used this workbook as my main source for the lab exam preparation. The core labs helped me to solidify my routing and switching skills. The advanced labs were well designed to incorporate most of the features of the Cisco technologies. The solution guide is well prepared with good explanation as to why one particular method was chosen over the other and how to validate your solution.
Once again thanks to Brian & Brain for the excellent job that they have done. You guys ROCK!!!

It makes me very happy to inform you that I have passed my CCIE lab. I bought IEWB Ver 1.1 three years ago and at that time I had no idea what I was getting into. I realized I had a lot to more learn and went about that and Cisco went about adding new and interesting topics to the CCIE Lab. You people too updated your workbooks regularly and the 2 year investment protechtion program was a boon.
May of this year I attempted the lab for the first time and I failed. There are lots of reasons for my failing, but lack of knowledge or subject matter expertise was not primary among them. It was more to do with nerves and comprehension of the lab questions among other things.
Yesterday I passed the R&S Lab in Dubai and I will be more than happy to recommend your workbook to my friends. Thank you.

It really is all about psychology. I know everyone always says this, but I'm a firm believer now. I went in for my first attempt yesterday morning, but I'm convinced that the test really started four days ago when I stopped studying. I made it a point NOT to study the few days prior to my test. It was really hard not to go digging around in the doc cd or try and do one or two more labs, but that may have been the best decision I made over the course of my studies. It REALLY helped me keep the stress down and get a good nights sleep the night before.
Of course, the wonderful bed at the Residence Inn helped a little on that part, too. When I got to the testing facility in the morning at RTP, I was refreshed and ready to go.
Now for the study stuff. Dynamips is a godsend. It can be really annoying and really buggy. But for guys on a budget like me, it's perfect. Once you get the kinks worked out, you can lab anything up in minutes. I'll probably keep using it from here on out for quick testing at work. The workbooks from InternetworkExpert are wonderful.
Their advanced technology series are a great place to start your labbing. The core workbooks are excellent for building your speed.
And their main workbooks are great for building technique and developing good lab based critical-thinking. Reading the Doc CD can't be stressed enough, either. Use it as your primary source of information. It's your only asset in the lab, so why not base your studies off of it? It helped me a lot when I was unsure of something.
It should only take 15-20 seconds to look something up for clarification. Lastly, don't get overwhelmed. It's a lot of material. But, it's not so bad if you break it up.
I guess it's time to get back to the real world.
Thanks again for all your help.

after that time I went towards my weakness and improve myself. Finally, I am done.
I almost did all IE v3 and v4 labs, and I must say that these guys really rock! not only for exam preparetion, but also for real life, I learned alot from these workbooks. And also I used some of the advanced features of routing in some of my real life projects and that provide really well solutions for me. I mean when doing your practice labs and wbs and etc, do not ever thing that this case has no relation with the real world scenarios and let it down. Try to understand how it works, try to understand the usage style of the technology in that case and you should be fine, on both lab exam and real world.
I give my special thanks to both Brians for their Mock lab. It was a great one and I think every candidate must take it at least once before the exam.
By the way, Brian says that, I did not see anybody who got 80+ from Mock lab and then failed the real one. Well, the tradition goes on ;)

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to say thanks for the great material you provided - I used every one of them (VoD, audio, core wkbk, R&S wkbk, etc) . It enabled me to pass the R&S lab on the first try this past Friday. You were right on the money when you said the real lab would be equivalent to your labs with a difficulty of ~8.
Also, the mock labs were invaluable. The biggest lesson I learned from them was to double and triple check - which paid off in the real lab. In the real lab I finished all tasks with 3 hours left over for double checking and I found lots of mistakes...
Anyway, I sincerely appreciate the quality of your work. In fact, while I was sitting in the foyer waiting to go into the lab I was recommending your products to other candidates.
Keep up the good work!

You guys are awesome. I passed my written in Dec, 06. After that, I purchase IEWB-RS and studied hard on it for about 6 months. I took the Lab at the end of May, and passed on my first attempt. I practiced with Dynamips and 2x 3750 switches, and went through the majority of the v3 workbook. Anything that I wasn't ready for after about 20 labs, I went the technology labs to work out the kinks. Also, your free v-Seminar on how to take the lab was INVALUABLE, as time and test management were key to me passing.
Anyways, thanks guys! You rock!

Just wanted to let you know that I passed R&S lab exam in Brussels yesterday on my third attempt. My CCIE number is 17906.
I purchased End-to-End program last year. I used IE material (COD, Tech labs, Core workbook, WB, Mock Labs) to prepare for the lab. IE CODs were invaluable and I learnt a lot from them. I think that explanations in your workbooks are awesome, and Mock Labs helped me in identifying the little stupid mistakes I make along the way and with time/stress management.
Keep up the good work.
Thanks

For my preparation I used ... all of the IE products, COD was fantastic, pricey but well worth it (found the Brian's had a great sense of humor in V3J). I know that these guys are running a business but they definitely give way more than what's required and their passion rubs off on you.

I first got CCNA in December 2000. I finally obtained CCNP certification in May 2005. I passed the written exam in July 2006. I used the two "routing TCP/IP" books (which I think are essential prep material) along with the Cisco CCIE exam cert guide to prepare for the written ... I purchased Internetwork Expert CoD along with the R&S lab workbook. The Brians are awesome instructors and cleared up everything I wasn't sure about. I did some lab work the past few months but not a whole lot. I'm very comfortable with the IOS and have been usiing it daily for over 7 years so I didn't need so much practice as much as theory. Coming up to the lab date I mostly studied the Internetwork expert labs, studied the doc cd inside out, and listened to classes that I thought I needed.

I took your one week bootcamp in Reno just before heading to my exam this 1st of may. Thank you for offering such good materials and allowing me to pass this dreaded exam.
I just used IEWB 4.0 and a couple of mock labs and I got the necessary preparation for passing at the first try!
One of the things that made me decide for IEWB over other vendors were the excellent explanations and breakdowns on the solutions guide, differently from other vendors that don't give such a detailed explanation.
The mock labs are an excellent way to prepare and build the mindset of concentration and speed you need in the actual lab. Also the breakdown session you get explained by Brian is very good.
Keep up the high quality standard and thanks for helping me on this difficult endeavor.

Just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me pass the lab last Thursday in RTP. This was my third attempt, but my first since the fall of 2004. A special thanks to the Brian's at InternetworkExpert ... I went through the labs from both vendors noted above and the Class on Demand from IE. I have nothing but great things to say about their R&S products.
I used the Core and Technology Labs from IE. These products were great, because I really was only getting about 4-6 hours a week in studying (other than the NMC classes below) and these products allowed me to focus on my speed and my weak areas.

I have passed two CCIE lab exams recently :-) March 2007 - R&S June 2007 - Security
For R&S track I used Advance Technology Labs and two Mock Labs. I found them very usefull, tech labs for review for single technologies and Mocks for verification of my preparations status.
For Security preparations I used CoD, current workbook (technology and mock labs) and remote racks. I found them all very usefull as well.

I am pleased to inform you that I passed my CCIE lab exam on Feb. 6th, 2007. This was my first attempt. Initially my score report had indicated that I did not pass and through the breakdown of percentages I had determined that I was about 3 points from passing. So under the advice from a colleague, I had submitted for a reread and I also scheduled my next exam for March 12th. On March 6th, my reread results came back and showed my reread was successful and I had passed. My CCIE number is 17516. I wanted to thank both of you for your great products. I began my lab preparation back in June of '06 by purchasing your version 3 workbook along with the Class on Demand. While gathering equipment for my home lab I began preparing by reading the usual Cisco Press books as well as utilizing your COD. The COD is a great product and I would definitely recommend it to anyone pursuing their CCIE. It helped close many gaps that I had in my knowledge and solidified the knowledge that I did have. I decided to follow the advice from Brian Dennis and followed his guide "How to pass the Routing and Switching CCIE lab exam." So in September I also purchased the Core Lab workbook along with the Advanced Technology labs. From September through the end of January, I knocked out all of the labs that Brian had suggested in his guide. With any topic I had trouble with I went back to the books and reviewed the class on demand. This helped fill in the gaps and made me comfortable with a particular technology I was having trouble with. After every task I would verify my solution was correct before I went on to the next task. I applied this same verification process in the lab exam and I believe this is what made the difference. My last week before the exam was spent relaxing and making sure I got enough rest. Thanks again for your wonderful products and I will definitely consider you guys in the future for other certifications that I may pursue.

I have passed my CCIE lab exam in the R&S track and I am now CCIE 17359. There were a lot of factors that have lead to this achievement. A major factor was your great IEWB. It helped me a lot along the way. I have enjoyed struggling with the complex routing and switching scenarios. Questions were designed to help the candidate to explore topics and go deeper beyond things. Your support to your products is appreciated. The support department at Internetwork Expert also doing a great job in terms of response to customer requests.

Thank you for making me a better CCIE than I would have become if you didn't show me the error of my ways. Learn the fundamentals and not the solutions and the exam will be secondary to what you will really accomplish.
Especially Dennis's engergy and easy approach to being a CCIE has been and will be always an inspiration. I will also miss the jokes and stories he told during the CCIE-R&S-AT classes. :)

I skipped my job and studied fulltime (self-funded) using the self-paced products. I have used the IEWB-RS ver. 3.0 labs several times, studied the Advanced Technologies Labs, and tested my "speed" with the Core Lab Workbook. The AT-COD definitely made me understand aspects I couldn't find precisely explained in books or on the internet.
I laughed, cried, and sweated together with Brian and Brian through their 80 hours of COD. My best tip when studying is to remember having breaks. Your brain can't cope with all that new information at once. It need breaks to store and sort it.
Don't give up, even if you fail. You have come this far. Step back, be true to yourself, and find your weak areas.
Thank you Brian and Brian, and every one else at Internetwork Expert, for all the materials that makes it possible to become a CCIE.

Thanks so much for providing great training materials and practice labs. I passed my CCIE Service Provider Lab on Thursday, Aug 7, using only Internetwork Expert study material. I'm writing to say thank you, and that I passed my R&S CCIE lab exam in Brussels yesterday.
In my preparation I heavily relied on your IEWB-RS Vol I & II workbooks, so many thanks to all the authors and a congratulations to you all on a good quality product!

I got my number 17089 in Bejing for the first try, only by practicing IEWB with IE Rack Rentals and doing the mock labs.
I would like to thank you for your very best workbook that covers almost everything needed for the lab.
Thank for the deliberate wrong IP address in the initial config of the mock lab, as I tried the mock lab and during the grading you took out 3 point for the wrong initial config. I intended to claim but leave it instead to go to the real lab. Surprisingly enough I got a similar preconfig error but this time I found it right away as being experienced in the mock lab.
Once again, thank you very much!

I just wanted to drop a quick note and let you know that i passed at RTP on 10/24/2006. I am now officially CCIE# 17082. Your workbook and prep materials rock. Your customer service is top notch. I passed on my third attempt using your workbooks, audio class, and rack rentals. The discounted 25/per session really helped me get in a lot of lab time. Thanks again for all that you have done. I couldn't have done it without internetworkexperts. Next up Voice.

I got my number yesterday in Dubai . I have been studying for over a year and passed on my 3rd attempt. My suggestion to wannabe CCIEs is to atleast get hold of the Internetworkexpert's COD and Workbook. they are just invaluable.
I would like to thank everyone on the groupstudy list. it wouldn't have been possible without the help of the list.
Thanks

The Class-on-Demand was so resourceful and entertaining that I took a total of 4 weeks off work just to watch it twice! The volume one labs cemented the skills learned in all that book reading and the COD. The Core workbook did exactly what it was supposed to - increased my speed and accuracy on the core topics. The Volume two lab workbook, what can I say, it's the devil's work for sure, but it really took me over the edge and beyond in terms of truly understanding the protocols and their interactions and caveats.
Once again, a big thank you to all the team at IE for delivering (and supporting) such great products and helping me on my journey towards internetworking expertise.

I am as thrilled as I can be writing you this email. ... I am now CCIE #16815. There is no way I would have passed that lab without the IEWB-RS Lab Workbook. I can assure everyone that the material in that series of labs will get you ready for the real thing. This was my 3rd attempt, and in all 3 attempts there was only 1 or 2 things that I encountered in the real lab that weren't in the Lab Workbook. And the Documentation CD took care of those. If you want to pass the Lab, you really need to invest in the IEWB-RS Lab Workbook. ...
Thanks again to everybody at Internetwork Expert for the excellent material,
Mike West

I cannot thank Internetwork Expert enough for their outstanding products, as I would not be writing this email if it was not for you guys. You have made obtaining the near impossible, possible.
Here are my 10 CCIE R&S commandments for those taking the same path.....
1. Internetwork Expert Class on Demand, view all 80 hours and take extensive notes
2. Read through entire DOCCD relevant to R&S, and take extensive notes
3. Internetwork Expert Workbook - 30 Labs - go over anything you got wrong or did not understand
4. Internetwork Expert Core Lab Workbook (this was really good.... get it)
5. Internetwork Expert Advanced Technologies (just read through)
6. Internetwork Expert Class on Demand - second viewing, and take extensive notes (you will be surprised what you missed)
7. 2x Internetwork Expert Mock Labs 1 month before your Lab date (if you get 80% or over on both, you are ready)
8. Cisco's online Evaluation Lab (this is also good for feedback)
9. Take the real thing
10. If you fail, never give up, because... if it was easy, it would be worthless......
Thanks to the Brians and the rest of the Interenetwork Expert team for making this day possible
Thanks to my wife Rachael, and my son Jack for being so patient & understanding during this time. Thank you for reading.

First, my recommendation for all is to understand all topics of the blue print from Cisco site and documentation CD as a main resource.
Second, I used Internetwork Expert's as practical Labs which contain a lot of the real LAB concepts, great explanation for various topics and cover almost all topics in the blue print.---- thanks Brain
